A gourmet seafood restaurant that sticks to its Hawaiian roots.
Grand Wailea's latest restaurant renovation has completely refreshed the space with a new concept and gourmet gastronomic approach. Set amid an idyllic beachfront lagoon and featuring stunning Pacific views, their award-winning fine dining destination was transformed to embody a seafood market atmosphere defined by freshness, creativity, and taste. The Humuhumunukunukuāpua‘a is the state fish of Hawaii. You might recognise the name from a punchline in the film Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It was culturally important to feature the restaurant's full name wherever possible. The identity of the restaurant needed to stand out from the competing market and Pacific-style seafood restaurants by alluding to authentic Hawaiian fishing practices.ClientWaldorf Astoria HotelsAgencyKing & PartnersCreative DirectionJoe GranatoYear2023ServicesBrand Identity Menu Design Web DesignOutcome
Our brand for Humuhumunukunukuāpua‘a instantly evokes the feeling of fine dining on a Hawaiian lagoon. Instead of branding the Grand Wailea’s fresh fish market in the western style of its competitors, we made sure to allude to authentic Hawaiian fishing practices while keeping the brand clean and refined. The result – a uniquely Hawaiian seafood experience designed for the tastes of Maui’s fine diners.
